WAS LOCKED IN HER ROOM
Mrs. McKee Told Capt. Martin She Was Afraid of Her Life Wile Her Husband Had A Bad Spell, and He Was Committed to the Buffalo State Hospital
Robert N McKee of 399 Plymouth Avenue was committed to the Buffalo State Hospital late last night on the certificate of Drs. Dwyer and Constantine, who have decided that he is crazy and unsafe to be at large.
Mr. Robert N McKee was at one time quite wealthy and he and his family are well connected socially. McKee has been ill for several months. He has met with financial reverses and his troubles have shattered his reason.
He attempted to strike his wife the day before yesterday.
Mrs McKee visited the Police Court Tuesday afternoon and swore out a warrant for the arrest of her husband for assaulting her. Judge King issued the warrant and it was placed in the hands of Capt. John Martin of the Niagara Street Station to serve.
People against whom warrants are issued for assault are simply notified to appear in Police Court the following morning. Capt. Martin intended to tell McKee yesterday afternoon to appear Judge King's court this morning.
Late yesterday afternoon Capt. Martin received a call from McKeek's house that McKee was threatening to kill his wife. Capt. Martin sent two policeman over to the house in a hurry. They found Mrs. McKee had locked herself in her room and saw her husband brandishing an axe.
Mrs. McKee's family sent for Drs. Dwyer and Constanstine to examine her husband. They found that he was unbalanced, mentally, beyond any question of doubt, and issued a commitment for him at the Buffalo State Hospital. He was removed there late last night.
Is is said by friends of the family that McKee was at one time wealthy, but financial reverses came and then sickness. McKee took to drinking and he has been acting strangely for several days.
